Mental Wellness

Yoga philosophy goes beyond the practice of physical yoga. The philosophy behind this ancient system of exercise and meditation also forms the basis for its practice. The many philosophical ideas that are part of yoga can be studied for a lifetime. There are several major branches of yoga philosophy, each of which has their own unique features and benefits. These are just a few branches of yoga philosophy. For the most important principles of yoga, read on.

The first chapter of the Yoga Philosophy program teaches students the principles of the practice of yoga. The next two chapters will discuss ways to cultivate certain attitudes and practices that improve yoga practice. The cultivation of friendliness, compassion, joy, and indifference are particularly important. These qualities are crucial for practicing yoga. The fifth chapter of the Yoga Sutras, written by Patanjali, contains a description of the philosophy of yoga. This text is one the six orthodox Vedic school. Raja yoga has its roots in Samkhya. A ancient philosophical system, it is heavily influenced by Buddhism. Samkhya has 25 elements that make up the reality of the Yoga system. This includes the notion of God. Ishvara (or God) is a Purusha who is considered to be a special Purusha. It transcends the law of Karma.

The intellectual content of the Yoga philosophy is largely based on the Samkhya philosophy. The Samkhya school of thought assumes the existence of God, and uses him as a model for the aspirant seeking spiritual release. Samkhya claims that spiritual freedom can only be reached when the spirit transcends matter, ignorance and illusion. The underlying concept of the universe, and the evolution of the world through its five stages, which are categorized as asana, is a fundamental part of Samkhya. It attempts to reverse world order by dephenomenalization. This is accomplished through the process of rebirth and ultimately returns the world to its original purity.

The ultimate goal of yoga is to free the individual from worldly suffering and the cycle of birth and death. The practice of Yoga will teach the individual to manage their mind and body, and transcend all desires. The yogi will then be able to experience a blissful union with the ultimate Reality and their individual souls through meditation. This is the result of the yogi’s understanding of the yogaic philosophy.

Yoga philosophy's history is complex and extensive. It is divided into two main schools, each with their own distinct focus. The Yoga Sutras school, founded in 400 CE, and the Tantric school, a descendent of tantric philosophy, originated in the west. Yoga Sutras tradition states that the underlying nature and purpose of the universe is pure awareness (purusha), while conscious thoughts and objects are merely derivatives of this purusha. Meditation allows the student to see this true nature.
